Sorry! This deal has expired. If you subscribe to Tucson on the Cheap, you’ll never miss another deal!

On December 10, 2011, head downtown to enjoy the “Second Saturdays Downtown” event!  This event is the hottest party in town, kind of an urban street fest.  2nd Saturdays are loads of fun and are designed to be family-friendly. Tucson comes alive in a series of free-to-the-public, arts, entertainment, shopping and dining happenings, including deals and specials.image001 8 300x168 Second Saturdays Downtown December, 2011 We went a few months ago and had a blast.

This Saturday, enjoy all the merchant windows decorated for Christmas!

Second Saturdays General Information:

Tucson’s Second Saturdays features an outdoor stage, an arts and foods promenade along Congress, concerts produced by the Rialto, Fox and Hotel Congress,  and featured events by a variety of local merchants and businesses.

There will also be special Second Saturdays dining, performance and retail promotions offered by the businesses situated within the event area.  Parking will be available at various sites downtown. Here is a Tucson downtown map highlighting parking areas.

Admission to outdoor entertainment is free. Be sure to check out the Museum Passport Program. If you collect two stamps from participating museums (such as the Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson Children’s Museum, Jewish History Museum, MOCA etc.) then you get a 15% discount on great downtown Tucson restaurants. So go to the museum, get your passport stamped, and then go out to dinner!

There are so many events, that my best suggestion is to visit the website and take a look at the event schedule. Seriously now, be sure to look, ok? For example . . . I saw 50% deals at the downtown El Charro (house Margaritas, draft beers, house wine, wells, from 3 PM -6PM and from 9PM – close. I see a free bag of marbles for kids of all ages at Got All Your Marbles? And BOGO tickets to the mars + Beyond exhibit, from 5 PM – 9PM.

On a Roll Sushi sells spicy tuna rolls for half price.

LOTS of other deals.

Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair–2011

Posted on | December 6, 2011 | 2 Comments

The Fourth Avenue Street Fair is simply the best street fair in Tucson! For anyone new to Tucson, these great street fairs are held twice each year (one in the spring and the other in winter). The fairs are free to the public, and about 400 vendors show up. You won’t go away hungry either. Approximately 35 vendors will sell food of all sorts, from popcorn to artichoke dip, hot dogs, burgers, chicken. And remember all the great restaurants along 4th Avenue, too. They are open for business if you get the munchies.4thAvenue Winter StreetFair Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair 2011

Two stages are set up to offer fine entertainment. I also enjoy the street musicians, balloon designs, face painting, jugglers, and artists. I have to say we have a blast every year. Here is info about the entertainment schedule.

Please note that animals are not allowed. In previous years, they did allow dogs, but no more, so please leave your cute little animals at home.

Kids are not neglected. there is a pavilion especially for them. It’s called the Hands-on_Kids-Arts Pavilion, and kids will enjoy special art projects, face painting etc. The kids pavilion is just off 4th Avenue, between 7th and 8th Street.

Parking is free, but it’s a bit of a hassle finding a space.I do want to mention that Neighborhood Parking permits from Speedway south to 10th Street and from Stone Avenue east to Euclid are NOT enforced during the fair. Yes, you can park there. Of course, you cannot park in red zones. Here is a convenient downtown parking map.

Another option is to park downtown at the Pennington Street Parking garage and then take the free shuttle. The shuttle runs all three days of the street fair. Another thought is to park at one the the University garages and then take the trolley over.
