Happy Hour at Shlomo and Vito’s

We stopped by Shlomo and Vito’s Deli last week to ask about their happy hour specials. The owner (Ernie) calls his happy hours, “the best in Tucson” because he doesn’t artificially raise the prices and then lower them just for happy hour. They really ARE cheap deals. For example, you can sip a margarita (with sauza silver tequila) for $3. Draft beers (including Stella Artois) run $3, and they offer several nice wines for $5 for a generous glass. Skyy Vodka Martinis are $4–a good deal. They also offer small plates during happy hour that run in the $5-$7 range..

It was too early for happy hour when we visited, so we decided on lunch. Since it happened to be a Friday, we ordered the fish & chip plate for $13. I’m telling you it was the best fish & chips I’ve eaten in years. The cod is lightly battered in Stella Artois beer and was moist and perfectly cooked. $13 may be a little high to call it “cheap,” but the price/performance makes it a good deal. If their happy hour is half as good as their lunch plates, I’ll be back. The food in the deli looked tempting–but then I am a sucker for good corned beef.
