Arizona’s German Speaking Jesuits
Posted on | February 7, 2010 | No Comments
You know what I love about my job? I learn the coolest things about Arizona and Tucson. Maybe you enjoy learning, too. If so, here’s a great free program at Himmel Park Library on Monday about German Speaking Jesuits in Sonoran Desert history.
Early Arizona was profoundly influenced and determined by German speaking Jesuit missionaries, including Padre Eusebio Kino. This program will introduce some of the major figures such as Kino, Pfefferkorn, Och, and Philipp Segesser. Experience “living history” as Dr. Albrecht Classen, distinguished professor of German Studies at the University of Arizona, demonstrates the significance of early Sonora in the global politics of the eighteenth century.
