Weather Spotter Training Class

The National Weather Service provides weather forecasts and information that allow users to protect life and property. As part of the warning process, what is called “ground truth” is vital. Ground truths are actual reports of severe weather phoned into the local office as severe weather is unfolding. Remember the monsoons are coming! Some spotters even send photos in real time via e- mail. I’ll bet you’ve seen some photos sent in by weather spotters.
Weather spotter training is voluntary and at no cost to the spotter. You will learn to report exactly what is going on in your neighborhood (heavy rain, closed roads, flash flooding, funnel clouds etc.)
First you need to know how to do that, and the weather services is offering a few FREE classes to teach you. All ages are welcome, though parental supervision is requested for the younger ones with an interest in weather.
You do not need to register, but you can call the number below if you need info.
Note please that there will be one other Oro Valley class after the one on May 10, 2010. That will be on Saturday June 12, 2010 at 2:00 pm. AND there will be a training session at Kirk-Bear Canyon Library (8959 East Tanque Verde Road) on Saturday June 5, 2010 at 10:00 am. Take that one if it’s closer.
